Every family that comes to us is at a different stage. Some know exactly what they want, others don’t know where to begin. Below are the questions we’re asked most, answered honestly, with nothing held back until you visit.
How much does a tombstone cost in Botswana?
It depends on size, material, and design detail, but most families work within a range from a few thousand Pula for a simple design up to considerably more for larger, fully customised granite memorials. We’ll always give you a straightforward quote before any work begins, and we’re happy to work within a figure you tell us upfront rather than showing you options that stretch beyond it. We have sort our tombstone into Signature collection, Classic collection and Essential collection.
Do I need permission from the cemetery before installing a tombstone?
In most cases, No. Sometimes councils and church cemeteries across Botswana often have their own requirements. Some limit the size or height of a tombstone, others require a permit or a small fee before installation. Rules can differ from one cemetery to the next, even within the same city, so it’s worth checking with the specific cemetery office before finalising your design. If you’re not sure who to ask, we can help point you in the right direction based on where your family member is buried.
What materials do you work with, and why?
Granite is what we recommend for a permanent memorial, it holds up to Botswana’s sun, seasonal rain, and the general wear of an outdoor cemetery far better than softer materials. We different types of granite depending on the design. We’re happy to explain the trade-offs if you’re weighing up options.
Can I design something personal, rather than choosing from a standard range?
Yes. Many families want a name, dates, and a simple message and that’s absolutely enough. Others want more: a photo engraved into the stone, a scripture, a symbol connected to the person’s faith, work, or something they loved. If you have an idea in mind, describe it to us and we’ll draw it up before anything is made, so you can see and approve it first.
How long does it take from order to installation?
Once a design is confirmed, production generally takes around two to three weeks. Timelines can shift slightly with more complex custom work, and we’ll always give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one especially if you’re planning an unveiling around it.
What happens if I can’t pay the full amount upfront?
We offer a lay-by option: pay a deposit to begin, then settle the balance over a period that works for your household. The price is fixed once you start, so you’re not caught out by cost changes partway through paying it off.
Will the tombstone need any care after it’s installed?
Granite is low-maintenance, but not maintenance-free. An occasional wipe-down keeps the stone looking as sharp as the day it was installed, particularly if it sits under trees or near dusty ground. We’re happy to advise on simple care if you’d like.
What do I actually receive once everything is paid and installed?
You’ll get a receipt for every payment made, a written record of the tombstone’s measurements and specifications, and confirmation once installation is complete with a photo, if you’re not able to be there in person that day.
Is there a size limit on tombstones?
Sometimes but not really, and it depends entirely on the cemetery, not on us. Some allow large, elaborate memorials; others cap the height or footprint. This is one of the first things worth confirming with the cemetery office.
Can I see examples before deciding on anything?
Yes, we can show you completed work, design samples, and previous custom pieces, either in person or sent to you directly, and also our website contains our portfolio and catalogues that contain our tombstones with their prices so you have a real sense of quality and style before committing to anything.
